The mandate of the Friends of the Colonel Belcher is to raise funds to provide amenities and enhancements for use by the residents and staff of the Colonel Belcher, by helping to improve the quality of care, comfort, service and education; and to develop relationships and friends which will support fund raising activities for major enhancements to the Colonel Belcher Care Centre.
The Friends of the Colonel Belcher Society is incorporated under the Societies Act of Alberta. It is a volunteer organization established in the fall of 1998 and incorporated in 2003 to support efforts to enhance the quality of life of veterans in the Carewest Colonel Belcher Care Centre. The Friends, in partnership with the Calgary Health Trust, raised over $2 million to provide amenities to enhance the quality of life for residents of the new Colonel Belcher Care Centre, which opened in 2003. A copy of the By-laws of the Society may be obtained here . The Care Centre provides single room accommodation for 175 residents, 135 of whom are Veterans. In addition, 20 Designated Assisted Living units in the adjacent residence are dedicated to veterans. With the completion of the Centre, the Friends of the Colonel Belcher Society undertook continuing fundraising to support the operation of the facility and provide amenities and programs for the residents. The Friends of the Colonel Belcher Society works with Carewest Colonel Belcher to identify needs and with the Calgary Health Trust to raise funds to provide for these needs.!
Membership consists of both organizations and individuals who are interested in providing the very best of facilities for the residents of the Carewest Colonel Belcher Care Centre. Membership in the society is given for any donation specifically earmarked for FOCBS. Such donations can be made through the donation portal on this web site. In addition to supporting the mandate of the Friends of the Colonel Belcher, members have the right to attend the annual meeting and to assist in shaping the direction of the Society.
